Theater Basel | Shechter / Arias

Shechter / Arias is a dance evening with pieces by Hofesh Shechter and Bryan Arias.

"The Fools" by the Israeli-born choreographer Hofesh Shechter is a dance piece that is very powerful and very versatile, it switches within seconds between strong, almost aggressive and loud music and movements to calm, even a bit melancholical piano sounds which is very captivating and pulls you from one part of the choreography to the next.
Hofesh Shechter composes and arranges all the music for his productions by himself.
The fools is very energetic and poetic and you never know who in the piece are the once being fooled and who are the ones fooling the others, but the feeling of being fooled and the individual's reaction towards that feeling remains constantly present during the choreography.
"The fools" premiered in 2008 in Bern and was reworked in New York in 2010.

"This is everything" by the American choreographer Bryan Arias is completely different to the first choreography of the evening, it radiates a fascinating peace and is very intimate.
The dancers seem to be deeply attached towards each other and this intimacy is transmitted to the audience as well.
This is everything show us exactly these things that individuals have in common, the common experiences like love, doubt and fear.
It touched us deeply and we felt delighted and thoughtful at the same time after seeing is.
