Art Unlimited 2017 | Hélio Oiticica - Penetrável Macaléia

Hélio Oiticica's Penetrável Macaléia is a work created in the 1970s when he created his sensorial cages which he called Penetrables.
Penetrável Macaléia is a walk-in paint metal grid structure, filled with sand, rocks and plants.
You can close the cage behind you and you will find yourself locked in a massive metal cage painted in bright colours. The colourful paint creates a contrast of freedom and pleasure towards the feeling of being locked in a cage. The cage is open towards the ceiling.
In this installation we like the contrast between the tropical flowers and the natural elements and the harsh and cold metal cage.
