Theater Basel | Die Zauberflöte (the magic flute)

The opera the magic flute by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart to a german libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder plays at the Theater Basel with german and english surtitles.
Prince Tamino flees from a snake and is rescued by three ladys, who come with a message from the queen of the night. Her daughter Pamina got kidnapped by Sarastro and Tamino has to rescue her with the help of Papageno, a bird seller.
Guided by three young boys and with the help of the magic flute and the magic bells they have to find the princess and during the opera what seems to be good turns out to be bad and the other way around.
Tamino and Papageno have to undergo the ordeals that will lead to enlightment and for Tamino to be united with Pamina and for Papageno to finally find his Papagena.
The stage is very impressive as huge wooden constructions on wheels with fold out stairs and rotating spiral staircases are used to tell the story and move the performers around the stage.
The magic flute is one of Mozart's last works and creates a beautiful, magical and dreamy fairytale world. The magic flute is also often mentioned in relation to freemasonry and allows every person in the audience to interpret it in his or her own way.
The melodies are classics and we remembered them immediately, we always think it is incredible how every emotion can be transported by Mozart's music.
We were captivated from the first moment and enjoyed the opera very much, the time was just flying by.
