Product of the month: Dyson Air Multiplier AM07

We don't want to complain because of course we love summer, but there is no fun in sleeping in a sticky and hot bedroom.
Up until now we have been using regular fans, but they take a lot of space, use a lot of energy and also they are not really decorative, which is why we have finally decided to get a Dyson.
We have chosen the Dyson Air Multiplier AM07.
This tower fan has a slim design we think is beautiful and is bladeless, which makes it safer (also pet safe) and easy to dust off.
It comes with a remote control with which you can set the speed level, a timer and the rotation.
Beside the design we love that the dyson is very quiet and if used close to the bed for us it's enough to use speed level 3/10, which is also very energy-saving.
We feel like -rather than just swirling around the hot air- the Dyson really seems to cool down the air somehow which makes it so much more pleasant than the fans we have used so far.
It is energy-saving, especially on the lower speed levels.
The Dyson Air Multiplier AM07 is perfect for hot summer days and nights, which is why we have chosen it to be our product of the month June 2015.

Faber Castell | Gelatos

We have worked with Faber Castell's new Gelatos for the first time and we absolutely love them!
The Gelatos remind us a bit of a lipstick and they feel good to hold.
What is special about them, is that they are so many sided. The gelatos are creamy pigment sticks, and the consistence allows them to glide easily on paper, fabric or even wood.
They can be dissolved with water to create an effect like painting with water colours or you can also smudge them with your fingers to work the colour into the surface and blend one colour into another beautifully.
It is so much fun to use them because there are really no creative boundaries.
The Gelatos are sold in sets of different colours and come with a paintbrush and a clear stamp.

We love summer and therefore also to spend time in the sun, but it is very important to protect your skin against it.
We avoid exposing our skin directly to the sun around noon or for very long periods of time, but whenever we do enjoy sunshine we are careful to use a good sun cream.

Art Basel 2015 | Looking back

We are looking back on a wonderful week, filled with inspiring moments and the most amazing pieces of art from all around the world.
We got to talk to a lot of interesting people and as every year we leave the Art Basel behind us, full of inspiration and creative energy.
We captured some of the beautiful art pieces.

Art Unlimited
The Art Unlimited, with the enormous installations impresses us every year again, and for us it is a wonderful experience, just like walking through a huge art theme park.

Film / Theater
Beside the actual Art Basel exhibition there were many great side events, like the play The Metopes of the Parthenon or the presentation of Isaac Juliens new work Stones against Diamonds.

Art Unlimited 2015 | Jesús Rafael Soto – Sphère Lutétia

Sphère Lutétia (1996) by Jesús Rafael Soto is a big installation that was built about twenty years ago and brings together many of the artist's discoveries and obsessions since 1950, such as immateriality, reductionism, monochrome and, above all, vibration and perceptual instability.
The straight metal rods are painted in three colours and the sphere seems to be divided horizontally in white and red, under a black cylinder. These coloured forms simultaneously appear and disappear, expand and contract.
This installation was very imposing and the visual effect is amazing.

Art Unlimited 2015 | David Shrigley – Life Model

Life model (2012) by David Shrigley is a three metre high sculpture of a naked male figure, set in a traditional life class drawing room.
The body is comically disproportionate with over-sized ears and a large pointy nose.
He poses confidently on a low pedestal, blinking his wide eyes from time to time and occasionally peeing into the bucket that is placed right in front of him.
The chairs and easels invite the visitors to sit down and sketch the body in their personal way.
Some of the drawings are displayed on the walls of the "classroom", that way becoming a part of the installation.
We always find the Art Basel very inspiring and this installation allows you to release all your creative engergy and be a part of the art yourself.

Art Unlimited 2015 | John M. Armleder – Medium Green, Woodland Scenics, Realistic Trees (FS)

Medium Green, Woodland Scenics, Realistic Trees (FS), (2014) by John M. Armleder is a large installation composed of one large painting and six found chairs.
This work is part of the series of Furniture Sculptures, for which Armleder combines monochrome or abstract paintings with found pieces of furniture.
The painting is made by pouring down different types of paint and lacquer on a vertically positioned canvas.
While the surface is still wet, glitter is sprinkled onto the painting.
By pouring the colours down the canvas, the artist allows them to run down unpredictably and create a random pattern.
The painting is therefore rather unstructed and haphazardly when opposed to that the chairs are placed in exact positions, each with the same distance to the next chair.
We think that these two contrasts make the whole installation complete and very impressive.

Art Basel 2015 | Theater Basel | The Metopes of the Parthenon

The aesthetic always uses a mask that, at one and the same time, affirms and negates. It is only in the intermittence of revelation that we have access to works of art. Theatre and art do not represent a space in which to live: here, the laws and values of this world are not valid. Theatre and art are not intended to solve problems: they must add new ones.

For a few days during the Art Basel there was a play playing in Hall 3 called the Metopes of the Parthenon by Romeo Castellucci presented by the Theater Basel.
The Metopes of the Parthenon by Romeo Castellucci is a scenic installation about life and death, that shocks, provokes and makes you question your own life and destiny.
There is no preparation for what is to come, a victim that is lying on the ground, wounded and screaming in agony. The viewer is left in his role, watching the drama happening, the helpers failing to save the victim. After each death a riddle comes up, that we were trying to solve, which is much harder after having just seen something so terrible happening.
It raises the question whether the victim could have survived if the riddle had been solved previously, is there even something we can do about destiny, about death?
As the play took place in a hall with no seats, all the visitors were walking around freely and the stage was stage and audience area in one. We think this is very fitting, as for us the different reactions of the viewers were like a side show to the actual show, if not even a part of it.
Watching someone die -even if just in a play- is a disturbing experience; some were moving closer, others further away, some shocked, others ashamed, some taking pictures other just staring petrified.
The actors acting performances were incredibly realistic, which made the whole experience even more real and therefore more horrible.
The play ends as apruptly as it begins, leaving us with even more questions than we had before.
Even though it is the most shocking play we have ever seen it is a unique experience, confronting us with the most fundamental questions in life and forcing us - in a time of non-stop progress - to stop for a moment and think about life, destiny and death.

Art Unlimited 2015 | Sheila Hicks – The Treaty of Chromatic Zones

The Treaty of Chromatic Zones (2015) by Sheila Hicks is a wall installation made from various materials.
The multi-coloured batons de pigments (as the artist calls them) are made from natural bamboo dressed and enveloped with masses of pigmented acrylic floss, linen, cotton, silk, alpaca yarms and stones and coins embedded within, each of them handmade in the artists studio in paris.
Everyone who metaphorically holds one of these batons in his hands has power, and has the right to speak up. All the batons arranged one over the other in an amazing mix of colours represents a discussion, with many different participants.
Then there comes the white square, which represents the white table.
After a discussion, after a process, there has to be a moment where you clear the table –therefore your mind– and let all the thoughts and arguments settle, to afterwards start again with a fresh mind.
The hanging linen at the end of the installation has many little holes in it, which represents that when you walk away from the installation, and leave the exhibition, you will never have all you questions answered, you will never be able to know everything.
We find this installation very inspiring and truly beautiful.
For us it can also represent something else, when we were standing in front of it for a while it started to remind us of the course of life.
You start in the left when you get born, through a very colourful life full of ups and downs. Maybe there is a period where everything stands still, maybe a crisis, but life will go on, in other colours but as many-sided. In our interpretation, the linen in the end represents death, with the holes symbolizing that maybe not even death must be the end and there are things we will never know and questions we'll never get answers to.
