Theater Basel | Kinder der Sonne (children of the sun)

Children of the sun is a play by Maxim Gorky playing in Russia during an 1826 cholera epidemic.
The children of the sun are the members of the Russian privileged elite, intellectual and wealthy but unaware of the outside world and what is going on behind the walls of their homes.
There are many little stories running parallel;
Melanya falls madly in love with Protassow, a chemist, who is very devoted to his work but married to Jelena. She feels neglected by her husband and for her part falls in love with her husbands friend, the artist Dmitri Vaguin. Lisa, another member of the family seems to be the only one aware of the upcoming crisis but is considered sick.
The divide between rich and poor is a very current topic and for us the play is taking up very basic subjects such as health, justice and wealth and representing them in a dynamic, sometimes even a bit mad and tragic-comical way.

Keller | finest brushes for hair and body care

Beside using good products to wash and care for your hair, the hairbrush is one of the most important tools to get healthy, strong and beautiful hair.
The saying is ancient, you need 100 brush strokes a day.
As using natural products is very important to us, of course we don't want to use plastic hairbrushes and combs, and while looking for the best wooden hairbrushes we found the brand Keller who produces highest quality brushes (initially just the brush handles) for hair and body care in Germany for more than 140 years now.
We have picked our 5 brushes that we think need to be in everyones bathroom.
From left to right:

Wooden paddle-brush made from maple wood with real wooden pins.
The wooden pins have an antistatic effect and massage the scalp, which stimulates hair growth.
The paddle-brush is perfect for long hair.

Cushion brush made from olive wood with premium wooden pins.
Olive wood is one of the worlds hardest woods and the air-filled cushion conforms to the shape of the scalp. It prevents tangling and breakage and brushes the hair very gently.

Cushion brush made from olive wood with wild boar bristles.
The bristles gently massage the scalp and stimulate the circulation of the roots of the hair. Stroking the hair with a brush with wild boar bristles will leave it healthy, add volume and a beautiful natural shine.

Mens comb made from beech wood.
This comb is perfect to part the hair precisely and comb it gently through. The wooden comb has a massaging effect on the scalp.

Facebrush made from olive wood with pure soft goats hair.
Using a facebrush has many benefits for your skin. Skin is more delicate on the face and therefore it is important to use a soft brush that will not scratch your skin. Using a facebrush will exfoliate the skin and stimulate the blood circulation. Dead cells are removed and the skins natural functions are supported. We use the facebrush after washing our face in the evening and before applying our skincare products.

With the brush cleaner loose hair can be removed and if it is necessary the wooden pins can be gently washed with warm water. Never dry the brush on a radiator as the heat can damage the wood, but just leave it pins-down on a soft towel to dry.
If you take good care for your brush it will be your loyal companion for years.
We would never want to go back to use plastic brushes after using these for a while, they lie well in the hand and you can tell it is a quality product. Not only are they very gentle and caring for the hair, but also they look really beautiful and as it is a natural product each brush is unique.

Theater Basel | Schlafgänger (lodger)

Schlafgänger is a play based on the book by Dorothee Elminger on the topic of lodgers, people who rent a bed to sleep somewhere for a few hours before going back to work.
The characters in the play do have their own beds, but still they are sleepless, each for his own reason.
They are awake at night, each of them a representative of our time, and telling their stories to one another.
It is about very current topics such as migration, boarders, refugees, wealth, justice and life and death.
We think the play is thought provoking, about our own place in society and justice in the world.
It does not follow a strict storyline but is rather one big web of voices, which makes it a very dynamic, authentic and alive performance.

Theater Basel | Engel in Amerika (Angels in America)

We visited the premiere of Angels in America, the famous two-part play by Tony Kushner at the Theater Basel.
The two parts (Millenium approaches and Perestroika) are shown on two separate evenings or as one long play with intermissions.
The play opens in New York City in 1985, focusing on two struggling couples, one gay and one straight.
Louis leaves his boyfriend Prior after he confesses to him that he is infected with aids and meets the mormon lawyer Joe, who is married to the valium-addicted, agoraphobic Harper. With ex-drag-queen Belize, Prior tries to fight Aids and is visited by ghosts and an angel who proclaim him to be a prophet.
Joe is offered a major job opportunity by his mentor, lawyer Roy Cohn, who also gets diagnosed with aids but denies it, as he considers homosexuals as weak and ineffective and therefore says he suffers from liver cancer.

As the story unfolds the different characters are confronted with all the same matters, sexuality, life and death, illness and health, racism and guilt, which makes the topic of the play as current today as it was back in the year 1993 when it was first shown.

The play was absolutely amazing and one of our favourite plays of all times, it was very impressive how each actor switched between multiple roles and the acting performance was outstanding.
We love how the different scenes sometimes take place at the same time on the open stage. The audience was able to see the actors switch between the different roles on stage, which made the connection between audience and actors even stronger as the curtain never closes. There was a great dynamic in the play and the tension was constantly increased.

Roland Koch as ROY M. COHN
Michael Wächter as JOE PITT
Pia Händler as HARPER PITT
Florian Jahr as LOUIS IRONSON
Nicola Mastroberardino as PRIOR WALKER
Barbara Horvath as HANNAH PITT
Simon Zagermann as BELIZE
Myriam Schröder as THE ANGEL

production: Simon Stone

H&M x BALMAIN Preview #Balmaination

We were at the Preview for the H&M x BALMAIN collection and got to take a first look at the impressive pieces.
The collection is very elaborate and precious and ranges from very colourful and pompous to delicate and sequined pieces.
The mens pieces range from casual to military and create an edgy and powerful look.
Also the accessories play a very important role in this collaboration, the waist belts are a must-have in this collection and can be combined with many of the pieces and with matching shoes and jewelry you can complete the look.
We love the idea of creating earphones as music and fashion are very closely connected.
Only two more weeks until the 5th November when the collection will be available online and in selected stores only.

Dr. Hauschka | Spruce warming bath essence

The cold season is coming up and we like to take a relaxing bath after a busy and cold day.
The Dr. Hauschka spruce warming bath essence has a wonderful scent that reminds us of the scent in a forest after the rain has fallen. It contains jojoba oil which is very nourishing for the skin and norway spruce essential oils that vitalise and energise the skin.
We find the bath (especially the scent) deeply relaxing, the essential oils help breathe deeply and the bath leaves the skin very soft and invigorated.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast Musical Basel 2015

The german production of Disney's Musical Beauty and the Beast is coming to Basel.
We all know the story of the beautiful Belle and the cold-hearted prince who was turned into a beast by a fairy and can only be human again when he is truly loved.
We are looking forward to see a magical show filled with emotions and colours and it will certainly take us back to childhood, to singing teapots and talking candlesticks.
Beauty and the Beast will be in Basel from November 25 until December 13 2015 at the Musical Theater and tickets are already now available for presale.

Calia | Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner

Calia is a beauty care company from Canada, producing a great range of hair care and skin care products and essential oils, made by only highest quality naturally sourced ingredients.
We have used a few Calia products lately and they are amazing, they are very efficient and already after the first use you can see and feel results.
What we love about Calia is the concept, that you may add your favourite Calia essential oils
to the products, that way you can create your own scent and personalise your products.
The hydrating shampoo and conditioner are suitable for normal to oily hair, but can be used by every hair type.
We really like the scent of the products and after using them the hair feels healthy, soft and very light.
It adds a beautiful natural shine and volume to the hair.
Calia has many wonderful products and the philosophy represents everything that is important to us in cosmetics.

Buddha Board Mini

Our latest creative gadget is the buddha board mini.
It is the smaller version of the original buddha board and fits in every bag, so you can always take it with you and let your creative energy flow whenever you feel like it.
The design is very simple and practical, when you take the pen out of the holder you can fill it with water to start to create your art or use a small dish for the water. The more water is used, the longer the art lasts but if you take too much water it will run down the board a little and the lines will become thicker and less precise.
We really like that the creative process continues itself, after painting you can just sit and watch the image change and slowly disappear.
The buddha board can only be used with water, other liquids or pens will permanently stain the surface and you can not use it anymore.
Especially at the present time where there is so much pressure and stress, we think it is important to take the time to sit for a moment and leave everything behind. Even though art usually is created to stay, we like the concept of the perishability in the buddha board, every created image disappears again and leaves the board clean and clear for the next image to come.

Droste Laux | Face mask with wild rose

The Droste Laux face mask is fantastic, it has a very smooth and creamy texture with tiny grains and a wonderful scent. The mask is applied to cleansed skin and left on to soak in for 10-20 minutes. It contains wild rose oil, macadamia nut oil and different mineral stones like rose quartz and rock crystal. It has a regenerating effect on the skin and improves skin tone and texture, the healing soil has an anti-inflammatory and balancing effect.
After washing it off with warm water, it leaves the skin very soft, relaxed, nourished and refined.
The mask is suitable for all skin types.
For us the scent is very calming and relaxing and using the mask is a real feelgood-experience.
